This Monday 10th October marks World Mental Health Day, with this year’s theme as psychological first aid. Similar to physical first aid, psychological or mental health first aid is aimed at recognising and addressing the first signs of injury or illness.  Training around mental health first aid has been offered by a range of organisations in the UK for several years, and the concept has been growing in prominence and acceptance. For this year’s World Mental Health Day, the focus is on the impact of traumatic events on people’s own mental health, and what actions they can take to support themselves and others. If you’d like to find out more and get involved, see the World Federation on Mental Health and the Mental Health Foundation. If you’d like to know more about mental health first aid, see MHFA England for more information.  There are also equivalent organisations for the other UK nations.
